Cat Power The Greatest. On Tour.

About this show

Twenty years on, The Greatest still sounds like midnight. This summer, Cat Power returns to New Zealand for a run of special shows performing her seminal 2006 album The Greatest in full, alongside songs spanning one of the most singular catalogues in contemporary music. Recorded in Memphis with members of the legendary Hi Rhythm section, The Greatest remains a defining statement from Marshall: smoky, soulful and heartbreakingly intimate. Featuring enduring tracks including “The Greatest”, “Living Proof” and “Lived in Bars”, the album cemented Cat Power as one of the most influential voices of her generation. To mark the album’s 20th anniversary, these rare performances will revisit the record front to back, a chance to experience its quiet power, emotional depth and timeless beauty in the live setting it deserves. Support for these shows will be Lawrence Arabia - the acclaimed musical project of Christchurch-born singer-songwriter James Milne, one of New Zealand’s most celebrated and influential contemporary artists. Across a career spanning nearly two decades, Milne has released a string of critically acclaimed albums, earning an APRA Silver Scroll for his song Apple Pie Bed, the inaugural Taite Music Prize, and multiple Aotearoa Music Awards. There are few artists who can hold a room the way Cat Power can. Experience the magic of The Greatest and re-enter the orbit of the early millennium in these raw, hypnotic shows in November.
